4/26/17 (Ingrid)

i remember when you said,
“Don’t rock the crib, oh no don’t rock the crib!
the child’s little, she may slip and roll down to the river”
so i stopped rocking the crib and we wrapped each other
in a blanket and prayed in our wordless church.

we got part time jobs and thick jackets
we thought we know life and we didn’t mean it
we sang The Beatles songs in capslock
and smeared our lips cherry lip balms and we lip locked.

you never laughed at the tint of my bruises
but when you were stuck in a purple room, you didn’t scream
no one saved you –i couldn’t
then you rocked the crib, you rocked the crib
you rolled down to the river with the child.
you rolled down to the river with the child.
